Sorry Alexander, I have no idea! Perhaps your maps would make a good book or zine. . .

Katherine Harmon wrote a book discussing imaginary and fanciful maps, which I'll be reviewing here at Duck Duck Book, relatively soon: You Are Here: Personal Geographies and Other Maps of the Imagination (Princeton Architectural Press, 2004). She includes many widely varying examples, which make it fairly evident that creating imaginary or fictitious maps is something that lots of folks are moved to do -- so I think you're in good company!

I make ficticious trasit maps for real cities. The cities tend to be semi-major, New England ones that I have some familiarity with, like Worcester, Springfied, and Providence. I've been doing this for a long time, but your book has spurred me to put more work into them and do them more frequently. Do you know of any websites/blogs etc. that ficticious maps can be submitted to?

You used the word "climactic" in the 3rd paragraph, 2nd line on this summary page. The word should be "climatic". Climactic has to do with "climax". Climatic relates to "climate".

Actually, I'm inclined to agree with you. Your statement about the professional military is even more telling now--with all of the "paid professional" mercenaries working in the Middle East, it seems as if the Bush Administration has settled on a strategy for now.

I have a book rather like that one that I picked up years ago at The Strand. The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks by David A. Embury. Doubleday & Co., Inc., Garden City, NY. 1948. Here's what he wrote about the Gin and Tonic:

"Remember that this is not merely a thirst quencher but also a tonic. It does contain real quinine, and too much quinine, while not intoxicating in the ordinary sense, nevertheless can produce a head that feels like a fully inflated balloon. Take due notice and govern yourself accordingly."

That's a great question! Unfortunately, I don't know of a resource that inventories terra cotta buildings across the United States. I'd be surprised if there were a comprehensive inventory, since terra cotta was so widely used in the early twentieth century.

There is an organization devoted to the preservation and study of terra cotta buildings in New York called Friends of Terra Cotta -- they may be able to suggest resources.

Good luck!

And for you young-uns, there's the young adult fiction title Montmorency: thief, liar, gentleman?, in which Victorian London's brand new sewer system plays a pivotal role.

The draft will never return unless we get into a very major conflict. Right now we have a professional military and it's better than ever. The military does not want nor will it allow a draft anytime in the near future.

Did you know that in Europe tarot cards are still used for playing actual card games similar to spades and euchre! In fact, tarot decks were originally made for game playing and the fortune telling stuff came about much later. The players these days are using more modern decks that look somewhat like regular playing cards and the trumps have different pictures than the fortune telling decks.
If you like tarot cards and games then go to Google and search "jeu de tarot" or "tarock"
