I’m a full-time librarian, and I spend five days a week in a building full of books. I find books when the library gets new materials, and when I use them in the course of my work. Sometimes I get interested in something for no particular reason and just start looking. But, I also try to stay abreast of what’s happening in publishing, and I try to keep track of books that other folks are interested in or talking about. Here are some of the resources I use:
- been reading. . . [rss feed] Jessamyn West’s reviews of books she’s read.
- Christopher’s Reading Journal [rss feed] Book reviews by my totally awesome colleague, Christopher Cuttone.
- Duck for Cover [rss feed] A book review blog by Marrije.
- An Embarrassment of Riches [rss feed] The Multnomah County Library review blog that I don’t write for, but love to read!
- Guardian : Books [rss feed] The latest articles and reviews from the British newspaper.
- Independent : Books [rss feed] Reviews and articles from another British newspaper.
- In the Book Room [rss feed] Book & publishing news from Library Journal.
- Library Journal : Reviews
- Michael McGrorty’s writing about books, from his blog Library Dust [rss feed].
- The Millions (A Blog About Books) [rss feed].
- Multnomah County Library : Teens : Your Reviews Book reviews written by teenagers.
- NewPages.com Reviews of books and literary magazines.
- New York Times : Books [rss feed] The book section of the newspaper’s website.
- No Flying, No Tights Comix & graphic novel reviews for teens, kids, and adults.
- NPR : Books [rss feed] Radio stories about books, authors, and literary news, mostly in audio-only format.
- The One Minute Critic Incredibly brief book review videos, from librarian Sam Wallin and the staff and patrons of Fort Vancouver Library District.
