Strange sites : uncommon homes & gardens of the Pacific Northwest / Jim Christy.
Madeira Park, BC : Harbour Pub., 1996.
[MCL does not have this book, but its call number would begin with 712.6]

Strange Sites is another book about the crazy stuff people build in their yard, or on the outside of their house, or the way they build their house out of something crazy.  The big difference is that this book is all about such places in the northwest: British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, Washington, Montana, Oregon, and Idaho.  Christy gathered information on the strange sites by driving around and asking people he met in small town grocery stores and gas stations, "Hey, do you know of any weird stuff around here?," and his descriptions of people and the places they've created for themselves are pretty fascinating.

The section describing Bottlerama, a site built by Gottfried Gabriel in Oliver, BC, is on the web, courtesy of the Art Gallery of the South Okanagan, where it was part of an exhibit titled "Strange sites."  The Washington County and Clackamas County library systems each have three copies of this book.
